About Open Water

Open Water is a catalog of sea voyages that ended in catastrophe — whaleships stove by whales, frigates wrecked on reefs, rafts and lifeboats adrift for weeks, the desperate measures of the starving — each autopsied from the voyage to the wreck to the rescue or the end, soberly, including the cases that reached law and survival.

What you'll find here

Open Water is part of The Far Country — a reference network of doomed expeditions, told as clinical dossiers: by ice, summit, open water, and the interior. The dead, the survivors, and the local guides and peoples are treated with gravity.
